Reconcile means to come back together in peace. This sacrament shows the children that their actions and words can hurt their relationship with God and with others. They learn to know a loving and merciful God as they ask for forgiveness. Preparation and celebration is in the Fall. To celebrate, families come together for a penance celebration.
The sacramental preparation involves home and parish sessions. Some chapters are covered in classes with catechists and some are covered at home with parents. The children are instructed by catechists, while the parents meet with the Formation Director. Because children mature in different ways this celebration should be based on the candidate's readiness rather than the academic grade level. Sacraments are the heart of our faith journey and preparation is most important. Youth need to be at least age 7 (most likely second grade) and have received at least one year prior of Catholic school and/or Faith Formation
